WOW, the devs over at the XDA-Forum never cease to surprise me. A member by the name of “liamstears” has got Wireless N running on the HTC Desire with Android 2.1.
Wireless N “is an upcoming industry standard for high-speed Wi-Fi networking. 802.11n is designed to replace the 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g Wi-Fi standards for local area networking.”
For information about Wireless N check About.com
“liamstears” is reporting that the kernel is running “flawlessly” on the MCR Rom, a lot of people are having success with the kernel although a few have reported a loss of Wi-Fi connectivity. As with any hacks, you should proceed with caution, and a slight understanding of how to flash a new kernel using recovery.
We will have to wait and see if this hack causes any battery consumption issues, but regardless, having Wireless N is cool and useful. Remember you do require a Wireless N enabled Router to take advantage of this.
Check out the XDA-Forum for the Kernel.
