We always get statements from Android device manufacturers about future possible updates but things always get a little more exciting when we’re given more specific dates. This time around it’s Samsung, they’ve already confirmed before that they will update some of their devices to the latest version of Android, but now they have provided an early roadmap that pretty much confirms most of their dual-core devices will get the upgrade.
The Samsung Galaxy Note and Galaxy SII will receive their upgrades sometime in Q1 2012. Now it’s probably more likely that unbranded and unlocked devices will get the update to ICS before the branded ones, so if you’re phones locked to a certain network, don’t be too sad, your time will also come, just slightly later.
Samsung’s Statement:
“Samsung Electronics plan to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices. The platform update for GALAXY S II and GALAXY Note will start in the first quarter 2012, and other GALAXY devices will soon follow.”
Any way, here’s the list of devices that will get the update:
- Galaxy SII
- Galaxy SII LTE
- Galaxy Note
- Galaxy R
- Galaxy Tab 10.1
- Galaxy Tab 8.9
- Galaxy Tab 7.7
- Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
As I’ve said, the Note and SII will get the update first and the rest of the devices on the list above will get ICS sometime later.
