New FroYo build Leaked for Galaxy S

**UPDATED 14/9** This has been superseded by a new, better fix (although not for FroYo).  See here - http://hemorrdroids.net/voodoo-fix-for-galaxy-s/

For all the Desire or Nexus One owenrs, sorry to bore you with yet another Galaxy S update, but I’m kinda excited by this one.  The big problem with the SGS is it’s ‘laggy’ interface.  I can’t imagine using this device out of the box, Samsung made a bit of a mess of it.  Luckily there are plenty of clever folk around that have made some tweaks to improve things.

Now, a new ROM has been leaked from Hong Kong, which to me is by far the best yet. I made a quick video of my SGS with it running, but I have to be honest, I don’t think it does it justice.  Anyone take a look -

Here’s a quick walk through of how to put it on your SGS, root it and apply the lag fix…

Back up all you need to before you start, we’re going to wipe clean during this upgrade.

  1. Download this file.
  2. Put the phone in download mode (vol down + home and turn on)
  3. Open the new version of Odin and then connect your phone.
  4. Use the new pit file to flash the JP2 files.  Don’t worry about some ending mdf, that’s fine.  CSC into CSC, Modem into phone and the last one into PDA.  I would suggest ticking repartition.
  5. Remove the USB cable from the SGS when rebooting.
  6. Take the ‘update.zip’ from the root folder of the download from step 1 and transfer it to the SD card.
  7. Shut down the phone again and back into download mode.
  8. Run Odin with ‘Auto Reboot’ UN-checked, loading the i9000_Kernel.tar from the download as the PDA file.  Go ahead and flash this.
  9. Pull the battery and reboot into recovery mode (vol up + home and power on). Flash the update.zip you put in the root of your sdcard.
  10. Pull the battery again, reboot into download mode again.
  11. Run Odin with Auto Reboot checked, loading the ‘ZSJP2_ZIMAGE.tar’ as the PDA file, still using the new pit file.

When it boots back up, you should be in business!  Now, head to the Market and search for ‘RyanZA’s One Click Lag Fix‘.  Install this and run the ext2 and then the lag fix and you’re good to go!

For issues with the installing of JP2 and root access, you might be best checking here on XDA, which is where I got my information from!

    Hi Andy

Forgive me if this is on the video, but I can’t see it at work. Could you run Quadrant on it and report back what score you got, please?

    Cheers
