I’m getting scattered reports of recent FroYo updates leaving the Market place inoperable, or plain missing!
This seems to mainly effect the HTC Desire, but I have seen reports of it happening on the Galaxy S too. Right now it would appear the best way to fix it is to hard reset! Don’t panic though, trust Hemorrdroids to do some research for you. We’ve some handy tips and things to try. First thing to try (reported working on Galaxy S, but not Desire)
1) Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications and choose ‘all’
2) Find Market and select it, clear data.
3) Download EStrong File Manager from here or from the QR code below.
5) using EStrong, browse your way to /system/app
6) Tap on vending.apk to install. It may Force Close, simply try once more.
If this doesn’t work, there is something else to try, but this is totally untested (let me know in the comments if you have the cojones to try it!)
Here is a Market file from a working device, try and install it. I cannot be held responsible for the results!
If that doesn’t work for you, we might need to go ahead and Factory Reset (Hard Reset). We have some tips for that though too!
1) Download a 30 day trial of MyBackup Pro from here or of course, this QR code.
2) Install MyBackup Pro on your Device.
3) Make a backup of all your apps.
4) Make a backup of all your data.
5) Go to Settings -> Privacy and select Factory Reset. THIS WILL WIPE EVERYTHING!
(You can use buttons to Hard Reset, see here)
6) Boot back up and check you now have a working Market place.
7) Restore your apps with MyBackup Pro.
Hopefully you’re back in action with a minimal down time!
