FroYo Hits the Galaxy S

Today it would appear website Samsung-Firmwares.com has got hold of an early version of FroYo for the Galaxy S.  I was quite excited when I heard this last night from their Twitter feed, but on seeing what it is, I’ve not taken the plunge just yet.

Although the thought of a smooth running, ultra fast SGS is a tempting thought, it would appear this ROM won’t necessarily give this.  Not only is it clocking lower Quadrant scores than my 2.1 with a speed hack, but there are plenty of bugs at this point.

The bigger bugs are the internet stops from time to time, WiFi is non-functional, the lock screen doesn’t always work, flash isn’t implemented unless you find a separate apk file and install it.  On the plus side, it’s great there is something out there, one dev has already made a new ROM from this on XDA Devs, but until source code is released, these will still be rather limited.

To me, this looks like a very early alpha release.  Maybe when some of the major bugs are ironed out, I’ll give it a go.  Even though Koush now has a working recovery mode for the Galaxy S, it’s not quite as simple swapping between ROM’s as it is on other devices, so for such a buggy release, I’m not prepared to take the risk of giving it a try.  When I do, I’ll be sure to let you know how I get on!

If you’ve tried it, let us know in the comments below.
