London & UK Speed Testing – Please help

Over the past week I’ve been let down twice by my network only giving my a 2G connection, even though I’m in the bustling metropolis of London.  With a data connection being so important these days, I’ve decided it might be time to seek out who ever is best and make a move after 17 years with my current network.

After a little Googling I realise it’s not so easy to find some simple results on speeds of mobile data though, so I figured I’m make my own results.  This is where you all come in to play…

Weather Apps

Being British, weather is always a topic of conversation and something you need to keep a close eye on.  One day there’ll be a cloud free, sunny sky… the next, pouring down with rain.

With this in mind, you’ll be wanting a decent weather app to keep an eye on things.  As I looked through the Market, it struck me that many of the weather apps are paid apps.  With the refund window only being 15 minutes I decided I’d take a look through a few of the better ones and show you what your options are.

Latify

A fantastic app to control your Latitude updates and save battery!

Another Update To The Market [Link To APK Provided]

We all know how cool that Google +1 is button is, well now it’s been added to the Android Market, but that isn’t all that has been updated.

You’ll already know from an earlier article that the Market received many changes, and all for the better, but now there are plenty more surprises. For more information and a link to download the updated Market read on.

Google Music in the UK

It keeps surprising me, when people talk about Google Music on Google+ that people keep saying ‘But it’s not available on the UK without messing with proxy’s, is it?’.  Yes, yes it is.

The only thing that is actually blocked is the Google Music app in the Market place, but this can be downloaded from here.

TouchPal Beta

Whilst typing with both thumbs is great on Gingerbread, using one is still in need of the perfect keyboard.  Can TouchPal be that keyboard?

UK Data Speeds Survey

Epitiro is teaming up with the BBC to take an independent survey of mobile data speeds across the UK, but they need Android users help.

In co-operation with the BBC, Epitiro is conducting the UK 3G Survey to show where high-speed 3G services are available in every city, village and town across the country.

How can you help?
By downloading the UK 3G Survey app you’ll provide information that the BBC will use to create a definitive UK 3G Coverage map, for anyone to access.

Not only will you help build the BBC UK 3G Coverage Map, you’ll also see your coverage history on your android smartphone.
